Doors Open Day, Sept 27 & 28, 2025
The annual doors open day weekend in Edinburgh will see us opening the Covenanters Prison to visitors and giving guided tours throughout the days. No booking is required, simply turn up and look around, then join in a tour group if you wish. Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard members will be available throughout the day to answer questions, explain the history & show you the symbolism used on the memorials.
To find the Covenanters Prison, enter the Kirkyard through the main gate off the top of Candlemaker Row, then turn left and follow the path up & around to the far corner of the Kirkyard.
First Sunday, each month
On the first Sunday of each month, members of the Friends of Greyfriars meet in the Kirkyard between 1pm and 4pm.
All members are invited to join in for any part of the afternoon, and are welcome to bring a friend. We start at 1pm by the main gate in to the Kirkyard and will be easily identified by our bright green hi-vis vests. If you arrive anytime after 1pm, please simply look for us around the Kirkyard, our green hi viz vests are easily spotted.
